Press release:
First B&Q store to open in Hong Kong

1 June 2007

Kingfisher, Europe's leading home improvement retailer, is expanding its presence in Asia with the opening of the first B&Q store in Hong Kong.

The store, which opens on 1st June in East Kowloon, aims to bring a new one-stop shopping home decorating experience to the Hong Kong market.  It will build on B&Q's existing presence in Asia, which now includes a total of 60 stores in China.

The new store has been adapted to the densely populated Hong Kong area where space is at a premium.  It is located on two storeys, the third and fourth floors of the fashionable new Megabox shopping mall in Kowloon Bay.  It will extend over 120,000 square feet and stock over 50,000 products, including a full home improvement range of kitchens and bathrooms, paint, lighting, decorative products, power tools and office furniture.

In addition, the store will feature a Disney Home Collection of furniture and home accessories, seasonal decoration ranges, tool rental and a furniture removal service.

In line with the stores in mainland China, the Hong Kong branch will offer a full decoration service, ranging from kitchen and bathroom design and installation, to the installation of a single item.

Commenting on the expansion into Hong Kong, Steve Gilman, Chief Executive of B&Q Asia, said: "We are delighted to be opening our 60th store in China and our first in Hong Kong, one of the most important Chinese cities.  We believe we will be well received by Hong Kong customers and are looking at how we can extend our reach to them by opening more smaller, local stores."
