Eco product verification
We work with sustainability experts, BioRegional, to verify eco products.
We have developed eco product guidelines, which set out two categories of eco products: 'best in class' (the most innovative eco products in our ranges) and 'eco compliance' (products with some environmental credentials such as certified timber or eco-labelled paint).
Products are verified by BioRegional (on a quarterly basis) to ensure they meet our definition. Our businesses stocked a combined total of over 33,000 products with eco credentials (by the end of 2011/12), with each one of these reviewed and approved by BioRegional.
As there is currently no agreed industry-wide definition of an eco product, our work with BioRegional is helping to set the pace globally for external verification of eco claims. In May 2011, Kingfisher was awarded the Ethical Corporation Award for 'sustainability commercialised' for its work with BioRegional on eco products. See eco products for further details.
