Kingfisher scores highly in Britain’s Most Admired Companies 2012

  • Tops sector for quality of management and ability to attract, develop and retain top talent

Kingfisher plc has been ranked the second best retailer (in the ‘broadline/home’ category) in Management Today’s Britain’s Most Admired Companies (BMAC) 2012 league table, rising one place from its position in this category in 2011.

 

Europe’s largest home improvement retailer appeared in the top 10 of two out of the nine ‘measures of success’ that BMAC scores companies on, making it top of its sector for its ‘quality of management’ and ‘ability to attract, develop and retain top talent’.

Overall Kingfisher was ranked in joint 62nd place with a total score of 61.83 out of 100.

Since 2008 Kingfisher has been focused on a range of self-help measures to create a step-change in shareholder value. The first phase of this strategy, Delivering Value, concluded in January 2012, which more than doubled adjusted pre-tax profits from £357m in 2007/08 to £807m in 2011/12. The current phase of our growth plan, ‘Creating the Leader’ was launched in March 2012 and will see Kingfisher emerge as a world-class retailer, helping customers have better, more sustainable homes.

About Britain’s Most Admired Companies Awards
The awards are based on the results of the Britain’s Most Admired Companies survey, conducted by Prof. Mike Brown and his team at Birmingham Business School. Using responses from board level representatives, as well as analysts and
City commentators, the survey is a peer review of corporate reputation, as seen by a company’s most clued-up critics – it’s competitors. The survey covers more than 200 companies, up to ten of the largest listed firms in each of the 25 sectors. Respondents rate the other companies in their own sector on each of nine performance criteria on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being very poor, 10 being excellent).
