Kingfisher was the highest scoring retail business.
The Guide, researched by Co-operative Investments, ranked companies according to a range of social, environmental and corporate governance criteria. It specifically looked at three areas - how companies report on their risks and manage their impacts (40%), the quality of their corporate governance (30%) and how they address issues specific to their sector (30%).
The Observer article stated: ‘Retailers all fly the green flag these days, but CSR veteran Kingfisher came out on top in this field, and was placed in fourth position overall. The B&Q owner's CSR agenda includes using sustainable timber and employing older workers.'
