Engagement in our stores means passionate, motivated teams, who deliver exceptional service to our customers, in line with our purpose Better Homes, Better Lives, and our One Team approach to working.
The key to engaged teams is engaged line managers, and it is our mission to ensure we have 10,000 inspiring team leaders across Kingfisher. In addition to a focus on leadership, each of our Operating Companies has developed impactful initiatives to generate engagement. Examples include an 'everyday engagement' approach at Screwfix, in which trade counter colleagues are encourage to give feedback on how they feel throughout the working day using an anonymous 'buzzbox' voting system; 'Progression' at Brico Dépôt Spain in which store employees meet monthly to take responsibility for finding ways to improve their store's performance, and also increase their bonus as result; and 'live sessions' at Brico Dépôt France, in which stores are given the tools to regularly update their store colleagues face-to-face on strategy and activities at both local and national levels. These sorts of initiatives are regularly shared between the businesses.
Kingfisher measures engagement once a year through the One Team Engagement Survey (provided by Gallup's Q12 survey). The survey results are an opportunity for teams to talk about team and engagement and performance and identify areas for further improvement. For the first time in November 2013, over 70,000 employees across the Group were invited to participate in the survey with 82% responding. We achieved an average rating of 3.95 out of 5 on the Gallup scale. Participation rates across the Group are high, which is very encouraging for an employee population of this size.
